Terry Osei Ready To Champion ‘Afro Swing’ Genre

Terry Osei

FROM Hip-hop to Hiplife to Hip-Dia, so many genres of music have been birthed with some not lasting while others have evolved with time.

And now, one enterprising artiste, Terry Osei, is ready to make the scene more dynamic by projecting a genre that has already gained grounds in Europe, especially the UK.

The Afro Swing, which started somewhere in 2017, is an amalgamation of African-influenced melodic rap hooks and Caribbean chord progressions.

It borrows the percussive sounds of Afrobeats, the basslines of bashment and UK trap and Terry Osei, also known as T.O., who is based in Germany is all prepped up to push it to another level.

Terry Osei’s authentic Ghanaian roots, meshed with Hip-Hop/Rap, Afrobeats, Dancehall and R&B, encapsulated as Afro Swing – is heavily felt on his single, Boomerang, which was released in January this year.

The song tackles temptation, giving in to it and its repercussions and as Terry Osei explains it, “I believe temptation is something we all face as we go through life. The difficult part is being able to resist it!

“For example, if you throw a “Boomerang” it always comes back again. Another example is having cravings or an addictive personality, regardless of how hard you try to overcome it, it just creeps back sometimes.

“There are many boomerangs which I use as a metaphorical expression for temptation in the song. From experience, prayer and self-belief are the only things that will keep you away from such temptations.”

Terry Osei first made headlines in Europe when he and his former music partner, ManLikeStunna, released the song Shigege in 2012.

He already has an EP titled 7 Crowns to his name and is feverishly working on a new single, Motherland, set for release in the second quarter of this year.

Terry Osei is co-founder of the UK/Germany –based Destiny Sounds Company, a group which houses a record label, a production company and a football agency.
