Police Storms Ho Central Market To Enforce Nose Mask-Wearing
The Volta Regional and the Ho Municipal Commands of the Ghana Police Service on Friday embarked on an exercise to enforce the wearing of nose masks at the Ho Central market.
About a dozen Police officers, some wielding canes, surrounded the market and its environs to ensure all persons had protective masks on.
Mr Alex Yeboah, Assistant Superintendent of Police in charge of the Ho Municipality, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) during the exercise that although all individuals had the masks, they always kept them in their pockets instead of wearing them, especially in public places.
He said visits to the market found compliance a challenge in the high-risk area, adding that the Police would continue with the exercise every market day.
“People have the masks but they are deliberately refusing to observe the protocols,” Mr Yeboah said.
He said the team tried to persuade persons without nose masks to purchase on the spot, and those recalcitrant ones were arrested for prosecution.
The ASP noted that the exercise was yielding the desired results and was hopeful that with time compliance would peak.
Meanwhile, the Ho Municipal Assembly is also enforcing spot fines of GH¢20.00 for non-wearing of masks as the Region battles the second wave of the coronavirus.
