Soldiers Storm Agbobloshie Market To Move Traders To Adjen Kotoku

A joint police and military task force has stormed the Agbobloshie Market on Wednesday to ensure that all the traders in the area adhere to the deadline of moving to the Adjen Kotoku Market.

According to JoyNews’ Manuel Koranteng, some of the youth in the area went on rampage by burning tyres in the streets of the market to register their displeasure of the evacuation.

The situation, therefore, forced the task force to fire tear gas and warning shots to disperse the public and quell the disturbance that had erupted.

In an interview, the Operation’s Commander, DSP Kwesi Ofori told JoyNews that the crowd controlling strategies implemented were necessitated due to some “criminal elements” who tried to disrupt business operations in the area.

According to him, the traders, particularly the onion sellers and cattle rearers who have been asked to evacuate have co-operated, however, “some crop of boys” want to dent the “peacefully planned and discussed operation” by their parochial activities.

“You can see that the security forces are taking appropriate steps to protect the traders who are at the other side of the Market because it is the intention of the criminals to burn car tyres and disrupt the business ongoing.

“It is the criminals who are trying to attack and the taskforce is rather making sure that we protect them [the traders]. You have noticed that there is no violence happening at this side of the market, but it is a crop of boys that are doing this and we will not allow them to harm our decent market women and traders,” he said.
