I Have A Lot Up My Sleeves – Mzbel
Prior to the death of her father, songstress, Mzbel, had so many plans she wanted to carry out but she has had to put all that on hold till after the father’s 40 days celebration.
Mzbel’s dad, Alhaji Ibrahim A Amoah, died on Saturday, January 29 at the age of 75 and has since been buried according to Islamic custom.
Graphic Showbiz caught up with the artiste at her restaurant Bela’s Pub and Restaurant located at Gbawe last Thursday where people came to sympathise with her and she disclosed that it had been a confusing time.
“I am confused, I haven’t experienced anything like this because when my mother died, I was 18 years so there was no responsibility on me. But with this, everyone is saying something, we are holding meetings here and there and all that.
“Apart from that, my Dad died well. He was a Muslim so we won’t have a funeral for him. Before he died, he told us not to hold any funeral for him when he passes on so we are abiding by that.
“We will just hold prayers for him on March 5 at my residence at Mallam Gbawe. We are in talks with the National Chief Imam to come and lead the prayers,” she stated.
On what projects she was working on which had been interrupted by her father’s death, Mzbel stated that “I have moved my restaurant and pub from Adjei Kojo, Tema West to where the children’s playground is at Mallam-Gbawe so it is a one stop entertainment centre and we are working on putting the place together.
“My studio and editing bench is also located at the same venue. We were scheduled to officially open the place on February 14 but as things are now, we have to wait till everything is over.
“I was also working with some artistes to release an EP but we have to put that on hold as well. I was billed for shows in the UK and the USA but I have had to cancel all that, there was a lot going on but I have had to put everything on hold.”
Mzbel had an amazing show at the Ghana Music Awards UK last year and she told Graphic Showbiz she really enjoyed herself on stage. She also disclosed that she missed those days when she used to thrill fans on stage.
“Yes, I really do, things are very different now but I am trying to blend in but it was fun, I had too much fun on stage in the UK.”
Mzbel added that her music career is still on course. “It is still on course, when something comes up, I put it on hold and go back afterward. I am a musician, I will forever remain a musician, once a musician always a musician,” she stated.
How does Mzbel see the current crop of musicians? “They are amazing, they have introduced a different sound and it is beautiful. When I travel, I hear their music all over the place and it makes me proud to be a Ghanaian. Both males and females are doing very well,” she said.
We asked her if she is dating and she replied, “Yes I am, I have always been dating.” Asked if she will settle down anytime soon, Mzbel gave a quick no and said marriage is out of the equation. “I am in a healthy relationship and that is what matters,” she stated.
Mzbel has a radio show called Odo Nso on Onua FM where she and guests talk about relationships, love and sex.
She took the opportunity to thank all those who have been sending her messages of condolence. “I would like to thank all those who are wishing me well, God bless them. The level of love they are showing me is overwhelming so I am very grateful.
“And to those who are insulting me for issues that have happened in the past, they should just stop. It is none of their business so they should just leave me to mourn,” she concluded.
