Africa Makeup and Beauty Fair ends in Accra

The eighth Africa Makeup and Beauty Fair ended on Sunday, November 10, with an appeal to the makeup industry to adopt eco-friendly practices and products, aimed at reducing the environmental impact of beauty products.

Hosted at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra, the three-day event attracted makeup artists, beauty brands and industry stakeholders from across Africa and beyond, and was dedicated to promoting sustainability within the beauty industry.

Dubbed the “Synergy Edition,” this year’s fair focused on fostering partnerships, innovation and eco-conscious practices.

The event included an array of engaging activities such as live sessions, a fashion and beauty show, and the Synergy Gala Awards, which recognised excellence and commitment to eco-friendly initiatives within the beauty and wellness sectors.

CEO of Makeup Ghana, Rebecca Donkor

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Rebecca Donkor, CEO of Makeup Ghana, organisers of the fair, highlighted the importance of moving toward environmentally conscious practices.

She stressed the importance of African beauty and wellness brands forging partnerships globally, noting these alliances could drive the adoption of eco-friendly solutions and promote responsible practices.

“We need to embrace our collective responsibility to implement sustainable practices that protect our environment and ensure our industry’s long-term success.

“As industry leaders, we must set the standard by using our platforms to inspire positive change, both in our communities and across the world,” she said.

Ms Donkor also urged the industry to promote peace and unity as essential elements of a thriving business environment.

CEO of Sleek Cosmetics, Bernard Annor, also encouraged beauticians and makeup artists to aim for creativity and sustainability to enhance their competitiveness on the global stage.

He said, “To stand out, we must blend creativity with eco-consciousness. This is what will help us compete not only within Africa but also in the international market.”

The fair climaxed with a Synergy Gala and Awards Night, which celebrated outstanding contributions to the industry, spotlighting brands and individuals who have demonstrated a commitment to sustainable and eco-friendly practices.
