CDS Launches Investigations Into Michel Camp Explosion

Lieutenant General Obed Boamah Akwa

The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), Lt General Obed Akwa, says investigations are underway to ascertain the cause of Wednesday dawn’s explosion at the Base Ammunition Depot at Michel Camp.

He has, therefore, appealed to residents in and around the BAD to report to the Commanding Officer at the Michel Camp if they find foreign objects in the community.

“Major investigations is going to be conducted into this incident and that is going to be immediate and we will come out with our findings in a couple of weeks,” Lt General Akwa said following a visit to the BAD to inspect the extent of damage.

He was accompanied by the Minister of Defence, Mr Dominic Nitiwul, the Chief of Army Staff, Major General William Ayamdo and other officials.

Briefing the media after the visit, Lt General Akwa assured residents in the area that they place was safe for inhabitation, saying, “The destruction is serious but we don’t expect any escalation of the situation. There is no threat to the people living in this residence.”

He, however, appealed to residents to report any unusual artefacts that they may find in the residents and around the community to the Commanding Officer at the Michel Camp.

“There is one thing that I want the public to note, that those who live along this community, that if they should come across any foreign object they should not touch it. They should not touch it. If you find any missile, anything that is foreign within your community don’t touch it. Just make a report to Michel camp and experts will go and examine it and defuse it”, he said.
