African music has made its mark across the world – Yvonne Chaka Chaka
South African musician, Yvonne Chaka Chaka, has spoken about the successes that African musicians have chalked on the global music scene.
Speaking to Nicholas Ekow Yamoah of JoyNews, mentioned the recent collaborations between African artistes and other international music giants as an indication of the growth of music from the continent.
“African music has made its mark across the world. Now you see people like Usher and all of those wanting to collaborate with African artistes. That’s a good thing,” Yvonne noted.
The music icon who was in Ghana for the African Legends Night also highlighted the evolution of African music.
“I think music should evolve. When I started in 1985, I was 19 years old, and music was totally different. We had people like Miriam Makeeba, Hugh Masekela and all other African artistes, and music has changed. There was Kwaito music in South Africa and now there is Amapiano,” she said.
Talking about the African Legends Night, Yvonne said she was happy to be on the same stage with other African music colossi like Adane Best, Okyeame Kwame and George Jahraa.
This year’s African Legends Night concert was held on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.
Yvonne Chaka Chaka is known for songs such as ‘Let Me Be Free’, ‘Umqombothi’, ‘Thank You Mr. DJ’, and ‘I’m Burning Up’, among others.
