Some aggrieved royals of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, the occupants of the Sunyani Paramount stool has urged Odeneho Akosua Dwaben II, the Paramount Queen-mother of the Dormaa Traditional Area stay away, as the family finds lasting solution to the Sunyani chieftaincy dispute.
They said the chieftaincy dispute was pending before a high court in Kumasi, and worried that: “meddling or nosing into the dispute will not only worsen matters, however potentially prejudice the judicial process”.
Addressing a news conference in Sunyani, Mr J A Danquah, the spokesperson of the Nyantakyiwaa Royal Family, one of three Gates of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, said it was unfortunate that “Odeneho Dwaben II is nosing into the Sunyani Chieftaincy dispute”.
The family organised the conference to react to recent remarks by Odeneho Dwaben II during the one-year anniversary of the enstoolment of Odeefour Ogyeamansan Boaken Korkor, the Paramount Chief of Sunyani.
Odeneho Dwaben II reportedly urged the chiefs and people of the Sunyani to bury their differences and rally behind Odeefour Korkor to facilitate the holistic development of the Sunyani Traditional Area.
According to the royal family, the Queen-mothers “unfortunate and unacceptable” remarks had since generated tensions, with tempers flaring up, and asked Odeneho Dwaben II to retract her statements and render unqualified apology to the Boahen Korkor Royal family.
Flanked by other royals, including Nana Obiri Yeboah, the Head of the Boahen Korkor Royal Family, Mr Danquah said: “The Sunyani truly cherishes the hard-cemented traditional friendship with the Dormaa people”.
“However, that doesn’t give the Dormaa Paramount Queen-mother the right to meddle herself in our chieftaincy dispute because doing so will not augur well for all of us.
“It’s better we wait and allow the high court to decide on the dispute in the supreme interest of peace, social cohesion and progressive development of Sunyani”, Mr Danquah stated, worriedly.
Nana Abena Dokua, a member of the Boahen Korkor Royal family said: “The statements made by Odeneho Dwaben are not only disgusting, but also shameful because we expect her to know better”.
“Odeneho Dwaben II is one of the revered Paramount Queen-mothers in the country and so we never expected such remarks and we expect her to retract and render unreserved apology to the Boahen Korkor Royal Family and the entire Sunyani people”, Nana Dokua stated.
