Akosua Agyapong Next On Oak Plaza Dinner With The Stars

Akosua Agyapong

VETERAN musician Akosua Agyapong is the next honouree of the Oak Plaza Hotel’s Dinner With The Stars event which will come off on Friday, August 30.

Since 2016, the Oak Plaza Hotel in Accra has been celebrating musicians who have immensely impacted the Ghanaian music industry as part of its corporate social responsibility of promoting local artistes.

The first recipient was Highlife musician, K.K. Fosu, followed by Amandzeba Nat Brew in 2017 and Gyedu Blay Ambolley last year.

The Oak Plaza Dinner With The Stars is usually an evening of dining and good music, and has since its inception attracted a lot of patrons.

It usually involves the celebrant putting up a performance with the support from their colleague musicians. They are also honoured with a plaque and other goodies from the Oak Plaza Hotel.

This year is a special year for Akosua Agyapong; not only is she celebrating 30 years of being in the music industry, she will turn 50 as well so the honour by Oak Plaza is more than fitting.

It is not surprising therefore that the event is themed: “Celebrating Akosua Agyapong 30@50”, which reflects all of the musician’s milestones.

Akosua Agyapong, an old student of Holy Child School in Cape Coast, was discovered by veteran Highlife musician, Nana Ampadu. Her debut album, Frema, released in 1990, was an instant hit and she captivated audiences with not only her talent and beauty but her amazing dance moves.

Some of her hit songs are Me Ye ObaaBorn Again, Anan Tuo, San Be Hw3 Wo Mma, among others. She teamed up with Amandzeba and Rex Omar to form NAKOREX, the group that brought us the popular Kpanlogo song.

After NAKOREX broke up, Akosua Agyapong took a long break and returned to music, this time as a Gospel musician.

The outspoken musician, who has not been shy to talk about her struggles, is also popular for her fight on copyright issues. She has certainly paid her dues and remains relevant in conversations around music and deserves to be celebrated.

The rate for the Oak Plaza Dinner With The Stars is GHS200 for singles and GHS350 for doubles. The event is sponsored by MTN and Graphic Showbiz.
