Court dismisses Thomas Partey’s appeal on Canadian visa refusal.
The Black Stars midfielder would miss out on Ghana’s opener against Panama in Toronto.
Partey’s legal team was pushing to overturn an immigration decision and seeking clearance to enable him to travel to Canada for the Black Stars’ opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Black Stars of Ghana landed in Toronto on Monday afternoon without their deputy captain, Partey, who was denied entry into Canada.
During proceedings on Tuesday afternoon, Partey’s lawyer argued that the court could impose conditions to allow him entry into Canada, stressing that the player had no intention of residing in the country.
Partey’s lawyer prayed the court to grant conditional clearance for his travel to Canada, having described the initial visa denial as “unfair and incomplete.”
The lawyer also pleaded with the judge for a swift decision, noting that time was of the essence given Ghana’s scheduled opening Group L fixture.
However, the Black Stars are set to train at the BMO Field this evening as they continue preparations for tomorrow’s crucial encounter against Panama.
The former Arsenal player is awaiting trial in England over rape and sexual assault charges.
