Coronavirus: AMA Limits Marriages At City Hall To 6 Persons Per Ceremony

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has announced that the conduct of marriages at its City Hall will be limited to only the couples and two witnesses each from the bride and groom.

Additionally, the AMA has directed the Police to ensure strict compliance concerning public gatherings in Accra.

An AMA statement said the directive followed a meeting by the Public Health Emergency Response Management Team(PHERMT)of the AMA on Monday (March 16, 2020) which discussed the public health preparedness against COVID-19 pandemic for the Accra Metropolis.

“The conduct of marriages at the AMA City Hall have been limited to only the couples and witnesses (two from both the groom and the bride)”, the statement said.

“Also, the Police has been directed to ensure strict compliance concerning public gatherings in the metropolis. All public gatherings and programmes at the AMA City Hall are suspended until further notice”.

The AMA statement further directed all food vendors and all public toilets to provide handwashing facilities.

Drivers are also to disinfect their vehicles (seat, door handle) using the bleach solution (“Parazone’) and provide handwashing facilities (veronica buckets, liquid soaps, hand sanitizers).
