Couple Who Fled From Their Wedding In Tamale Declared Wanted By Police
A groom and his bride on Sunday afternoon fled and abandoned their wedding ceremony when they heard police patrol vehicles approaching the event grounds in Tamale with blaring sirens.
The groom, who has been identified only as Nash and the bride, Tijani Nimatu, were holding an Islamic marriage ceremony at Kukuo with scores of guests in attendance, have been declared wanted by the Police in Tamale.
According to the police, the two acted in flagrant disregard for the ban on social gathering.
They were issued with a 24-hour ultimatum to report to the police but have since failed to honour the invitation.
Northern Regional Police Crime Officer, Supt. Kwabena Otuo Acheampong told 3news.com Monday evening that they will proceed to court to secure a bench warrant for the arrest of the couple who have since Sunday been on the run.
On Sunday, April 19 at about 1:00 p.m., he said the Police received information that there was a Muslim wedding ceremony going on at Alhaji Asuma Banda House at Kukuo, a suburb of Tamale.
Two patrol teams responded proceeded to the place but the couple as well as invited guests, according to eyewitnesses, upon hearing the siren of the police vehicles, began to flee the event grounds knowing their action was in breach of the law.
However, the police managed to arrest two of the guests for interrogation.
The two, Iddi Ibrahim, 34, an employee of the Regional Coordinating Council and Abubakari Yusif Dauda, 33, a businessman were put before the Tamale District Court on Monday charged with breaching the ban on social gathering.
Each of them was granted a 5,000 cedi bail with on surety each.
They are to return to court on June 16.
