Portia Asare-Boateng

GHANAIAN actress, Portia Asare-Boateng has asked young people, especially women, not to allow family and friends put pressure on them to get married because their biological clock is ticking.

In an interview on Zionfelix’s Uncut, Portia, who wouldn’t confirm if she were divorced or not, said she was forced to marry her husband, Rev. John Wilberforce Aidoo of Grace Baptist church because she was made to believe she was growing old.

According to her, she had a child after secondary school and thought it right to have a father figure for her son by getting married but would have preferred to get married for love and friendship.

“It is very common among the Akans to force young ladies to marry especially when you are closer to the big 30. Everyone thinks you are growing old and should settle down.

“When you get to a certain age, you feel marriage is all but I’m telling you it is not all. Take your time, know yourself for sure because it is not child’s play. Marriage is all about sacrifice because you have to be selfless.

“If you marry the person and there is no friendship or love, it will be very difficult to jump the hurdles that come your way.

“You will easily give up and that why I encourage people to marry their friends or marry those they love because you will definitely get disappointed when you marry because your friends are marrying,” she said.

Portia Asare who said she didn’t want to be referred to as a Kumawood actress couldn’t answer questions about her divorce.

“I’m not wearing my ring because ring is an accessory and you can choose to wear it whenever you dress up or not,” she said.

Portia went off the screens after her marriage and the The Good Old Days actress said she is back in the business.
