Efya’s Girl Talk Was The ‘Loudest’ Concert

Efya

WHEN the organisers of the Girl Talk show announced that songstress, Efya, would once again headline the concert this year, there were some who were sceptical about what she could offer. This was because last year, she pulled out all the stops when it was revealed that she was bringing her headlining duties to an end after three years.

She put up a sterling show and for some people, it was going to be hard to top it but the Best In Me singer delivered an amazing performance again on Friday, December 21 at the National Theatre when the show came off.

While some of the patrons were disgruntled about the late start of the show and expressed their displeasure by booing Efya when she was introduced, the majority didn’t really care as they had been well prepped by the DJ who gave them some great tunes, and they cheered loudly when the singer hit the stage.

This year’s concert was themed “The Loud Concert” and perhaps that is why Efya’s arrival was heralded by a trumpet. Clad in a metallic outfit made of gold, she was simply awesome as she gave guests an act befitting her growing international reputation.

Her opener with Until the Dawn was great and she performed other songs from her collection including Best in Me, Forgetting Me, Ma Me, Whoman Whoman and she managed to squeeze in three outfit changes while keeping the audience engaged.

While dishing out good music, Efya would stop to interact with the audience and the great rapport was very obvious.

However, the night was not just about Efya because some of the performing artistes on the night were just great. First, it was Highlife artiste, Amakye Dede, who treated the all female audience to some ” serious moves”. The loud screams from the audience, who jammed to his Akwadaa Wesoa song, showed how much they appreciated him.

Overwhelmed by the response, he thanked the audience for the love shown him and also prayed for support and success for Efya’ s brand and music.

Apart from the ‘serious man’ other performers also gave a good account of themselves. Notable among them were Gospel artiste, Joyce Blessing and rapper, Kwesi Arthur. It’s been just few weeks she gave birth but the I Swerve singer was great as usual and the patrons loved her moves.

Before Efya came on stage, it had been adequately warmed by the likes of Ssue and the Commotion band as well as the all female La Femme band.

Their lead singer did well, exhibiting some brilliant moves to the excitement of the charged audience. There were performances too from female rappers, Eno3, OV and Freda3 Rhymes.

One spectacular act on the night was a duet by Efya and Sista Afia with their rendition of Night Divine. It was delightful to watch the jeje Hitmaker hit some high notes.

Patrons were also entertained by the trio of Kuami Eugene, Kidi and King Promise as well as Adina and the Bhim nation boss, Stonebwoy.

The night wasn’t just about music as the occasion was also used to address the increasing cases of rape. As an event meant for only females, it was a good time to address some of the problems faced by women in society of which sexual abuse is paramount.

To drum home the importance of the message, Kumawood actor and comedian, Akwasi Boadi popularly known as Akrobeto, put up a comedic skit about rape.

Television presenter, Nana Aba Anamoah was also honoured for her campaign against the fight of abuse of tramadol. She received a citation and a ticket from Air Namibia as her prize package.
