Fire destroys PVC Warehouse and wooden structures at Avenor

Fire has gutted a PVC warehouse and adjoining wooden structures at Avenor in the Industrial Area, near the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) office in Accra.

‎The fire, suspected to have started in the early hours of Thursday, sent thick smoke over parts of the capital as emergency services moved to contain the blaze.

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) confirmed that the affected facility comprised a PVC warehouse and wooden structures, with personnel deployed to the scene to fight the fire.

Personnel from the GNFS, Ghana Ambulance Service and Ghana Police Service were at the scene, undertaking firefighting operations and implementing safety measures to protect lives and property.

‎The cause of the fire was not immediately known, as authorities had not disclosed what might have triggered the outbreak.

Firefighters were working to contain the blaze and prevent it from spreading to adjoining facilities within the busy industrial area.

Authorities urged residents and motorists in the vicinity to exercise caution and allow emergency personnel adequate space to operate.

The incident follows a major fire in June at the Accra Water Works, opposite the Accra Central Police Station, which destroyed parts of the Police Barracks
