Five Feared Dead In Fatal Gomoa Odumase Accident

Five people are feared dead after a Mercedes Benz bus with registration number GT 4913-18 and Man Diesel truck with registration number WR 211 – W was involved in an accident at Gomoa Odumasi in the Central Region.

The accident occurred on Saturday morning.

Speaking to Citi News in an interview, Rev. Father Francis Oteng Dumfeh, the Deputy Administrator at the St. Luke Catholic hospital in Apam where the bodies of the deceased were sent to, said, seventeen adults and two babies were brought to the facility.

“We’ve had 17 adults and two babies, we have also received four adult [dead] bodies and one boy of about three-years-old so in all, five people have been sent to the morgue this morning,” Father Dumfeh said.

Due to the challenges encountered by the health facility and the demands for quality healthcare from the facility, he appealed to authorities to resource health facilities on the Accra-Cape Coast stretch to meet the high demands.

“I want to use your medium to appeal to state authority that as much as we don’t want accidents to happen, when they happen they stretch the little resources we have.  So government should turn and have a look at this issue,” father Francis Oteng Dumfeh said.

Assistant Station Officer at Winneba Fire Service Ackumey Elorm also indicated that the driver’s mate of the man diesel truck who survived the accident explained that they were coming from Abidjan to Accra to offload goods when the accident occurred.

The driver’s mate of the man diesel truck said they are from Abidjan enroute to offload goods in Accra, at the time of the incident, but it is not clear where the sprinter bus was coming from unless we see the driver or the driver’s mate before we can know where they were coming from,” Ackumey Elorm said.
