Ghana Police to provide exclusive security for NPP primary

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has formally designated the Ghana Police Service as the sole security agency responsible for safeguarding its presidential primary, scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026.

Through its Presidential Elections Committee, the party made it clear that the deployment of any non-uniformed, plain-clothed, or otherwise unauthorised personnel from National Security or any other body at voting centres, collation points, or any primary-related activity will not be tolerated.

In a statement issued on Thursday, January 29, and signed by the National Organiser, Henry Nana Boakye, they cautioned that any attempt by unauthorised operatives to interfere with the primary would be considered a deliberate and unlawful intrusion into the party’s internal democratic process, with the potential to disrupt or manipulate the election.

“The NPP will not hesitate to invoke all lawful remedies available to it to protect the integrity of this process. Any unauthorised presence will be challenged and resisted within the bounds of the law,” the statement added.

The Party further stressed that the Ghana Police Service has demonstrated sufficient capacity and professionalism to handle the exercise.
