The Ghana Gold Board, in collaboration with the Goldbod Taskforce and National Security operatives, has arrested 25 illegal gold dealers.
This includes foreign nationals and Ghanaians engaged in illegal gold trading, smelting, and assaying.
Two separate operations at Dome Pillar 2 and Akweteyman-Achimota led to the arrests, with over GHS 64,000 and USD 112,500 in cash, several gold bars, and other valuable exhibits retrieved.
All suspects have been granted police inquiry bail, some suspects have already been arraigned in court, while others remain under investigation.
Mr Richard Nunekpeku,, the Deputy CEO of the GoldBod, reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to sanitize Ghana’s gold trade.He warned that all unlicensed gold dealings were prohibited and offenders would face full legal sanctions.
