Gov’t Extends Free Water Package To December 31

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has extended the free water package in the wake of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) to the end of the year.

According to the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, the move is to enable Ghanaians continue with the hand washing protocol in the combat of the virus.

The minister in a statement issued on Wednesday September 23, 2020 urged Ghanaians use the water judiciously.

In his fifth address to the nation on the Coronavirus outbreak on April 5, this year, President Akufo-Addo announced that the public would enjoy free water supply from the GWCL for the months of April, May and June 2020, as part of interventions to help stop the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

As part of precautionary measures to stop the spread, health experts have advised the washing of hands with clean water under running water for at least 20 seconds and this requires access to uninterrupted water supply, hence the government’s directive.

This was later extended from June to September 2020.
