KNUST reopens Thursday Oct 15 for freshmen, lectures to start Monday Oct 19

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in Kumasi has revised its reopening arrangements for the 2026/2027 academic year, with fresh students expected to report on Thursday, October 15, 2026, and continuing students on Saturday, October 17.

Lectures are scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19, 2026.

The new dates were announced in a notice issued by the Office of the Registrar on Wednesday [October 14, 2026] following an emergency meeting of the university’s Executive Committee.

Signed by E. T. Otieku, the Deputy Registrar in charge of General Administration, on behalf of the Registrar, the notice advised students, parents, guardians and other stakeholders to take note of the revised arrangements.

KNUST had postponed its reopening, initially scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, because of the ongoing GAUA strike.

In a press release issued on Friday, October 9, 2026, the university said the indefinite postponement had become necessary because of the strike and its effect on the effective operation and administration of the university.

The University of Ghana also postponed its reopening, which had been scheduled for Monday, October 12, 2026, GBC reported.

GAUA declared strike on August 10, 2026,
