Man jailed three months for assaulting wife in viral video

The Agona Nkwanta District Court has sentenced Emmanuel Kwofie, a 30-year-old farmer to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour for assaulting his wife in an incident that went viral on social media.

Kwofie who pleaded guilty to the assault charge was convicted on his own plea on Wednesday, October 14, 2026.

A press release issued by the Western Regional Police Command and signed by Chief Superintendent Olivia Ewurabena Adiku said investigations revealed that Kwofie and his wife, Diana Mensah, a second-hand clothing dealer, lived together at Domeabra in the Agona Nkwanta Municipality.

According to the statement, on October 8, 2026, Kwofie allegedly accused his wife of having an extra-marital affair and subjected her to severe beating, which was captured in the viral video.

The police however arrested the convict on October 12 and subsequently arraigned him before the court, presided over by His Worship Mr Kuma Selorm Dzata.

He pleaded guilty to the charge and was convicted on his own plea and sentenced to three months’ imprisonment with hard labour.

The Western Regional Police Command reiterated its commitment to addressing criminal acts and urged the public to report incidents of abuse to the police for appropriate action.
