Many Ghanaian Artistes Are Better Off Quitting Music – Mo’ Spence

ALTHOUGH she has no empirical evidence to back her claim, Ghanaian/Jamaican Dancehall musician Mo’ Spence thinks about 60 per cent of Ghanaian artistes are wasting their time doing music.

The singer, born of a Ghanaian father and a Jamaican mother, believes most Ghanaian acts would be better off if they put down their mic and ventured into other professions.

Speaking to Graphic Showbiz in an interview on Tuesday, November 21 at the Fiesta Hotel in Accra, Mo’ Spence said most GH artistes depended on luck to blow when it takes talent and money.

“Music is not about luck. You need proper planning to succeed. You don’t blow just because of luck. In fact, you need to work for that.

“I have been around for a while and studied the Ghanaian music scene and trust me, most of the musicians are just wasting their time and need to be told the truth.

“The truth is just one, you need to have a lot of money to do this music thing and talent also counts and I don’t see that with most of our artistes.

“They would do themselves a lot of good if they focused on other endeavours instead of music. Look, the reason the Nigerians are way ahead of us is because they have the money and the talent as well,” she said.

Going on with her claim, Mo’ Spence said: “I don’t want to mention names but the artistes who need to call it quits with music and do something else know themselves.

“In Ghana, the likes of Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, KiDi, Black Sherif, Kuami Eugene and just a few others are doing great. The rest must look elsewhere,” she added.

Mo’ Spence, real name, Monique Spence is currently promoting her latest EP titled Whine Down Low. Songs on the EP recorded by sound engineers Kaywa, MOG Beatz, Kilson Beat and Cashtwo Beats are Eno Be Easy, Stay Up, Champion, Anything For Love and Whine Down Low.
