No Need To Be Spiritual To Do Gospel – Jayana

Jayana

NEW Gospel artiste, Jemima Annor-Yeboah, whose showbiz name is Jayana may be on her way to ‘controversyville’ as well as incurring the displeasure of some of her colleagues with her belief that one does not need to be spiritual to do Gospel music.

Jayana who is also a make-up artiste said the perception that Gospel musicians must be spiritual was so wrong.

“When you do Gospel, there is a perception that you have to live a certain lifestyle which I find so wrong. You  can argue with me on that but the fact that I have the voice to sing does not mean I should be spiritual,” she told Showbiz recently.

Jayana also told Showbiz she is not enthused about this routine where female Gospel musicians settle down with men of God.

According to her, men of God are a no-no for her because marrying a man of God was a full-time job and if one was not ready to take it up, then one shouldn’t even consider it.

“I know I cannot be ‘Osofo Maame’ that is why I have advised myself not to marry a man of God. There are so many men of God who want to marry me but I always turn them down.

“First of all, men of God are dedicated to their work more than their family and nothing will change that. I am saying this because of my own personal experience.

“My late father, Bishop Dr Annor- Yeboah, former Chairman of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), was always out there doing the work of God and my siblings and I did not enjoy the fatherly love we yearned for,” she said.

Jayana explained that she would have had more time and affection from her father if he were not a man of God.

“Even though our dad did what he could as a father, our attachment to him was not as strong as we had wished for,” she said.

The singer said she however did not have a problem with any female Gospel musician marrying a pastor if she was ready and spiritual enough to handle all the troubles that came with being the wife of a man of God.

Just like most Gospel musicians, Jayana, who started singing when she was 15, honed her skills performing in church and has ministered at different churches.

Signed on to DaveJoy Productions, Jayana has received nominations at the Emerging Music Awardsscheduled to take place in September this year.

She was nominated for Popular Song of the Year, Gospel Artiste of the Year, Gospel Song of the Year and Best Collaboration of the Year with her song Victory which featured Joyce Blessing.
