Police arrest 26 for brandishing and firing toy guns in public
The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 26 individuals for brandishing and firing toy guns in public, an act that has raised concerns over public safety and peace.
The suspects are currently under investigation and will be brought before court to face charges.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, a number of toy guns were recovered from the suspects, which are being examined as part of the ongoing investigation.
The police have also launched special operations aimed at arresting other individuals involved in similar activities, which have recently become a growing trend in certain parts of the country.
The police caution the public, especially the youth, to refrain from engaging in such behaviour, as it constitutes an offence under Section 207 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29), which addresses “offensive conduct conducive to breaches of the peace.”
The Ghana Police Service assured the public that they remain committed to upholding peace and security in the country.
Further investigations are underway to curb the alarming trend of toy gun misuse, and the police have pledged to take swift action to prevent such incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, the public has been urged to report any similar incidents to the authorities to help maintain public safety.
