Riohs Show 2019 Gives Fashion Industry Hope

WHEN the 2019 edition of the Riohs Show, held at the Accra Digital Centre on Saturday, September 7, came to an end, patrons were left hopeful that the Ghanaian fashion industry’s future was amazing.

This is because of the high level of creativity that was exhibited through avantgarde designs at the runway show which effortlessly blended music, poetry and fashion.

The Riohs Show is the brainchild of the Riohs Originate Fashion School for its graduates to actualise what they have studied in the classroom.

According to the CEO of Riohs Originate, Richard Ohene Sika the show was put together to boost the confidence of the graduates and also provide them some leverage into the fashion industry.

This year’s show was attended by people from all walks of life and some of the personalities who graced the event included marketing executive Jesse Agyepong, Managing Director of Multi TV Santokh Singh, Hiplife musician Okyeame Kwame, a representative from the National Commission on Culture among others.

A wide variety of men, women and children’s designs were displayed on the runway by the graduates and they allowed their imagination to run wild as some of the attires showed.

The most coveted award of the night, Outstanding Student was won by Luna Kumah and Henry Kofi Agyei who were adjudged to have originality in their work, delivered to short timelines, paid attention to detail and were precise about their work.

There was a surprise by Okyeame Kwame who thrilled the patrons to some of his songs including Made In Ghana, which features KiDi.

Richard Ohene Sika said he was impressed with the combination of fabrics, concepts, designs and ultimately the creative collections of the graduates and attributed this to the school’s special plan to change students’ perception about fashion illustration which was key for every fashion designer.

He indicated that the strategy of the school has always been to churn out students who are able to create a sustainable fashion business while contributing meaningfully to the socio-economic development of Ghana.

Riohs Originate, which has been in existence fpr about 10 years, has gained recognition for its six month intensive training in fashion design and illustration.

The outfit won the Best Fashion School in Ghana at the 2019 edition of the Fashion Ghana Honours and Awards.
