Seventeen school girls impregnated in Banda District within nine months

The Banda District Directorate of Education in the Bono Region recorded 17 cases of pregnancies among school girls in the area between January and September 2025.

Comparatively, Madam Alimatu Amadu, the Banda District Girl Child Education Coordinator told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in an interview at Banda-Ahenkro that 11 school girls got pregnant within the same period in 2024.

She explained that the pregnant girls were between 13 years and 14 years, saying 11 of them, including a 13-year-old class five pupil had successfully delivered their babies.

Madam Amadu expressed concern about the growing trend of teenage pregnancies impeding girl-child education in the area and called for concerted efforts to bring the situation under control.

She said the directorate was presently collaborating with stakeholders and urging the need to intensify advocacy on promoting girl-child education in the district.
