The Accra Regional Police Command has arrested three foreign nationals in connection with alleged SIM box fraud activities at residential apartments at the Sakumono Ramsa Site.
The suspects, identified as Timileyin Fakunle, aged 30, Begun Adedeji, 31, and Olamide Roheemot, 28, were arrested in separate apartments.
A statement signed by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Region, said a search conducted at the apartments led to the retrieval of sophisticated electronic gadgets, SIM boxes and several assorted SIM cards believed to have been used for the alleged fraudulent activities.
It said during interrogation, the suspects mentioned two other accomplices, identified only as Mike and Kpalumi, who were at large.
Their alleged leader, identified as Tomy, a Chinese national who remotely controlled the SIM boxes, was also at large.
The statement said efforts were underway to liaise with the National Communications Authority to facilitate the safe removal and technical examination of the exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The suspects are currently in Police custody to assist with investigations.
The statement cautioned the public against renting or subletting premises to unknown persons without conducting proper background checks.
It advised property owners and residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to the Police.
The statement assured the public of its continued commitment to combating cyber and telecommunication-related crimes.
