Truck Pusher In Court Over “Wee”
A truck pusher has been remanded into police custody for allegedly possessing six slabs of dried compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, popularly known as “Wee”.
Abass Abongo, 40, was also found with handful of the similar substance.
He has denied possessing narcotic drug without lawful authority.
Prosecuting, Detective Police Chief Inspector Simon Apiorsornu told the Court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh that the complainants were police personnel from the Drug Law Enforcement Unit of the Criminal Investigative Department Headquarters.
He said on February 26, this year, the personnel upon intelligence embarked on anti-narcotic drug exercise at Madina, Accra and its environs.
Chief Inspector Apiorsornu said when the team got to Madina Market, at a well-known place for illicit drug peddling, they entered a wooden structure where they met Abongo.
The prosecution said the team found the six compressed slabs of the dried leaves and five handful size of the same dried leaves in plain polyethene bags placed in a multi-coloured “Ghana must go” bag.
He said during investigation and in his cautioned statement Abongo denied knowledge of the exhibits, adding that he shared the room with other people.
The Prosecution said the exhibit would be sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory for examination and report.
