Up And Coming Actors Not Hungry Enough – Shirley

MANY up and coming actors have lamented how difficult it is to break through into the movie industry and have blamed producers/ directors for always preferring to use the same old faces in their films.

However, for filmmaker Shirley Frimpong Manso, although it is her desire to help a lot of up and coming actors become professionals, her expectations are not always met whenever she holds auditions.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz last Sunday at the premiere of her latest movie, The Perfect Picture, 10 Years Later which came off at the Labadi Beach Hotel, Shirley said a lot of up and coming actors are not hungry enough with regards to their attitude towards work.

“I have held several auditions and it’s either they don’t get there on time or read the scripts anyhow. They don’t just get it and I sometimes wonder if they are really serious about the work.

“Any serious person who has the passion for a movie is always on time when he or she is given a time to come for an audition. You cannot just show up anytime you feel like it,” she said.

Shirley applauded new actor Raphael Boakye, who she featured in The Perfect Picture, 10 Years Later, for his exceptional performance.

“Honestly, I didn’t have confidence he could pull it off but he did more than I expected. I was shocked by the amazing performance he put up especially because it was his first time.

“Playing the uncomfortable role of a young man having an affair with a grown up woman was challenging but his performance was something else.

“To top it all, he was naked but he acted maturely, like a professional. This is someone I would like to work with again because he is serious about the work. It was his first time acting yet he did it so well,” she said.

Talking about The Perfect Picture, 10 Years Later, Shirley Frimpong-Manso said she was excited about the positive reviews she received after the premiere.

“With such encouraging comments from industry players, I know we are good to go. The Perfect Picture, 10 Years Later will go places and win awards. I want to say a big thank you to the cast and crew who made this movie a good one,” she said.
