Awutu Awubia Festival: Captivating Kente Clothing of Queen Mothers

The Awutu Awubia Festival is an annual festival celebrated by the chiefs and people of the Awutu Traditional Area in Awutu Bereku, in the Central Region of Ghana.

In 2023, I attended the Awubia Festival and covered the activities during the celebration. The festival is usually celebrated from August to September.

During the festival, attendees put on traditional clothing and warrior attire to showcase the culture and brave of the people in the town to visitors. There is also a durbar of chiefs, where the chief addresses the community and visitors about progress and developmental projects in the town, often appealing for funding for these initiatives.

The beautiful traditional clothing and vibrant colors were among the most captivating sights I experienced while covering the festival. The presence of the Queen Mothers, adorned in exquisite Kente clothing, cannot be overlooked.

These Queen Mothers parade through the streets, and their elegance is one of the highlights of the festival. The Kente clothing is sure to captivate anyone, showcasing the beauty of Ghanaian traditional attire. Below are some photos of the Queen Mothers in their Kente clothing.
