Change your lifestyle to reduce kidney disease – Dr Caesar

The Chief Executive Officer of M.Y. Caesar Company Limited, a wellness and food supplement firm, M. Y. Caesar, has urged Ghanaians to adopt healthier lifestyles to help curb the rising cases of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), particularly kidney diseases, in the country.

Mr Caesar, who is popularly known as Dr Caesar  described the growing incidence of kidney-related conditions as alarming, stressing that most cases could be prevented through lifestyle changes and early detection.

Recent statistics show that about 4,160 people died from kidney disease in Ghana in 2020, representing 2.38 per cent of all deaths, placing Ghana 56th globally in kidney disease mortality.

“This trend is alarming. Many of these deaths could have been prevented through early diagnosis and lifestyle changes,” Dr. Caesar said.

He emphasised that prevention should be the first line of defense, calling for intensified public education on kidney health.

Dr. Caesar advised Ghanaians to reduce salt and fat intake, manage blood sugar and pressure levels, exercise regularly, avoid smoking, and limit alcohol consumption.

He also encouraged the public to drink enough water to stay hydrated and refrain from abusing over-the-counter painkillers.

“Regular health screening is not a luxury; it is a necessity. Early detection can make the difference between life and death,” he added.

Through his company, Dr. Caesar has promoted the use of food supplements in managing health conditions such as kidney disease, liver problems, diabetes, and infertility.
