Three jailed 24 months, one remanded over fraud, adoption scam at Kasoa

The Kasoa Ofaakor Circuit Court, presided over by Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Atakorah, has sentenced three persons to 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour, while a fourth suspect is standing trial over fraud and adoption-related offences linked to a QNET scam at Kasoa.

The convicts were arrested by the Central East Regional Police Intelligence Directorate (PID), which also rescued five victims in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

Those sentenced are Emmanuel Kyei, 23; Issah Safianu, 23; and Prince Akwesi Ntim, 23. The fourth suspect, Elizabeth Agyekumwaa, 24, is expected to reappear before the court after a pregnancy test is conducted, as directed by the presiding judge.

According to the investigator, Chief Inspector Josephine Amoasi, police received information on December 26, 2025, about the disappearance of a 23-year-old woman, Priscilla Ninson, from Asamankese in the Eastern Region, who was believed to be in Kasoa.

She said investigations commenced on January 3, 2026, during which the suspects sent a text message to the victim’s mother, requesting that she bring medicine to her daughter in Kasoa, claiming she was unwell.

Acting on this information, PID officers lured the suspects to the Kasoa Overpass under the pretext of collecting the medicine and arrested Prince Akwesi Ntim. His arrest subsequently led to the apprehension of the remaining suspects and the rescue of five victims.

Chief Inspector Amoasi told the court that the victims, who hail from Techiman, Obuasi, Kumasi and other parts of the country, were defrauded under the guise of being sent to Germany after paying about GH¢30,000.

Her Honour Nana Asantewaa Atakorah sentenced the three male suspects to eight months each, totalling 24 months’ imprisonment with hard labour, while the female suspect was remanded to reappear before the court.
