One dead after failed overtaking at Gomoa Ankamu

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has confirmed that one person has died following a road accident at Gomoa Ankamu, near Apam Junction in the Central Region.

According to the Service, the Apam Fire Station received a distress call at about 6:40 p.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2026, reporting a collision at the scene.

Firefighters who responded found that the crash involved a Kia Picanto with registration number GW 8314-21 and a Hyundai Rhino truck with registration number GJ 823-21.

During the rescue operation, one victim was found trapped in the Kia Picanto and was carefully extricated by the team. The victim was handed over to the National Ambulance Service and rushed to St. Luke Hospital, where they were unfortunately pronounced dead on arrival.

An eyewitness said the two vehicles were travelling in opposite directions.

The Hyundai Rhino truck, which was heading towards Winneba, reportedly attempted to overtake at high speed. In the process, the driver lost control and crashed head-on into the Kia Picanto, which was travelling towards Cape Coast.

Both vehicles sustained severe damage from the impact.

The GNFS has once again urged drivers to be cautious on the roads, especially when overtaking, to help prevent such tragic incidents.
