Tropo Farms, operators of the Volta Catch—the largest tilapia farm in West Africa—has revealed that the company produces around 20,000 tonnes of fresh tilapia annually.
Speaking on the Citi Breakfast Show on Tuesday, November 25, 2025, the company’s Marketing Manager, Rebecca Avomo Diallo, highlighted the farm’s ability to meet growing national demand with a variety of Tilapia harvested directly from its aquaculture operations.
“Per year, we are able to get approximately 20,000 tonnes of fresh tilapia. We are the most reliable source of fresh tilapia. We have all the sizes — six categories in total, from the smallest to the biggest,” she said.
Madam Avomo Diallo added that most of Tropo Farms’ production is sold locally, supplying major markets across the country.
“We sell most of our fish in Ghana. We have depots in Accra, Kumasi, Tema and other places. If you check now, people are asking for more,” she noted.
The company’s increased output comes as local fish consumption rises, with consumers showing a preference for locally farmed tilapia due to its freshness and affordability.
Tropo Farms’ expansion reinforces its role as a key player in Ghana’s aquaculture sector and a significant contributor to national food security.
