11 injured in head-on collision on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway

Eleven people sustained injuries when two vehicles collided at Eduagyei on the Cape Coast–Takoradi Highway on Tuesday evening.

The injured comprised nine men and two women. No deaths were recorded.

The Central Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), ADOII Abdul Wasiu Hudu, said the accident occurred at about 7:15 p.m. on March 3, 2026.

He explained that personnel from the Komenda Fire Station responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene at approximately 7:30 p.m.

According to ADOII Hudu, an Opel Astra with registration number WR 4860-13, travelling from Cape Coast towards Komenda, collided head-on with a Nissan minibus with registration number CR 1414-23, which was travelling in the opposite direction from Takoradi towards Cape Coast.

He said 10 passengers aboard the Nissan minibus were rescued by members of the community and transported to the Elmina Polyclinic before fire service personnel arrived.

Officers of the GNFS subsequently extricated the driver of the Opel Astra, who had been trapped in the wreckage, and handed him over to the National Ambulance Service for onward transfer to the Elmina Polyclinic.

The rescue team later cleared debris from the highway to restore the free flow of traffic and secure the scene.

ADOII Hudu said investigations were ongoing to establish the cause of the accident.
