27th TGMAs: Highlife legend Daddy Lumba honoured with Lifetime Achievement Award

Ghanaian Highlife music legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has been honoured with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 27th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Daddy Lumba, who died in July 2025, was recognised for his contribution to Ghanaian music over a career spanning more than four decades.

The award was received on his behalf by his children and the head of his family, Victor Kofi Owusu, popularly known as Abusua Payin Tupac.

Speaking after receiving the award, Abusua Payin Tupac expressed appreciation to the organisers for recognising the musician’s legacy and thanked fans for their support throughout Daddy Lumba’s career.

The tribute included musical performances of some of Daddy Lumba’s songs. The segment was opened by musician Ofori Amponsah, who performed “Wo Ho Kyere.”

Rapper Okyeame Kwame followed with a performance of “Obi Ate Meso Buo,” a song he recorded with Daddy Lumba, drawing an emotional response from the audience at the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre.

Ras Kuuku and Kwabena Kwabena also performed selections from Daddy Lumba’s catalogue, paying tribute to his long and influential musical journey.

The ceremony also observed a one-minute silence in memory of musicians who died in the past year, including Daddy KD, Yaw Sarpong, Maame Tiwaa, Asebu Amenfi and Ebo Taylor.
