Let’s forgive our erring, irresponsible fathers – former MP
Dr Freda Prempeh, a former Member of Parliament (MP) and founder of the Ultimate Women Foundation (UWF) has urged families to forgive erring and irresponsible fathers.
She said: “Motherhood and fatherhood are experiences everybody will go through”, saying “as we mark the fathers’ day celebration, we must endeavour to forgive the wrongs and irresponsibility of our fathers too”.
In an interview with the media at Duayaw-Nkwanta, Dr Prempeh said her foundation worked to empower indigenous women and girls and thereby improve their wellbeing and comfort.
She said fathers remained the pillars and hopes of the family, and urged irresponsible fathers and men to amend their ways and to play their fatherhood roles and responsibility to build a better family and society for all.
Dr Prempeh said: “fatherhood goes beyond providing the needs but also ensuring general security of the family”.
“Fathers must also draw closer to their girls, listen to them and provide them with the menstrual and counselling needs as well”, the former outspoken lawmaker for the Tano North constituency in the Ahafo Region stated.
Dr Prempeh highlighted the essential role of fathers, saying building a cohesive family largely depended on fathers, however urged mothers to also find something worth doing to support in the upkeep of the family too.
She wished all fathers prosperous celebrations, and urged children to show some kind of love and care to their fathers by buying them gifts.
