Carlos Queiroz bids farewell after Ghana’s 2026 World Cup exit

Ghana coach Carlos Queiroz says the success of the Black Stars will not be built on the pitch alone, but also by creating the right environment for the team to thrive.

Queiroz’s statement comes after the Black Stars were eliminated from the 2026 FIFA World Cup following a 1-0 defeat to Colombia in the Round of 32.

The Portuguese coach, who was appointed in April with a mandate to lead Ghana only at the 2026 World Cup, reflected on the team’s campaign in a farewell message posted on Facebook.

“Football, like life, teaches us one timeless lesson: you either win or you learn,” Queiroz said.

The former Portugal coach said he was proud of the team’s achievements despite targeting to reach greater success.

“I leave this journey with pride in what we achieved, but also with the healthy dissatisfaction of those who always wanted more. Reaching a higher level should never be the destination – it should be the beginning of even greater ambitions.”

The future of the Black Stars will not be built only on the pitch.

Black Stars success must start off the field by creating the best possible environment to prepare, protect and develop Ghana’s extraordinary football talent,” he said.

The coach expressed gratitude to the leadership of the Ghana Football Association for the opportunity to lead the Black Stars.

“To my President and Board, thank you so much for the opportunity to serve the Ghana National Football Team.

It was an honour and privilege to serve the country and the Black Stars,” he said.

Queiroz also thanked his players and technical staff for their commitment throughout the campaign.

“To my players and staff, my deepest gratitude for your courage, commitment and unwavering dedication to the team.”

Despite Ghana’s failure to progress beyond the Round of 32, Queiroz said the team had restored credibility and respect on the global stage.

“To the fans, we cannot claim complete sporting satisfaction, but we can proudly say that we honoured the colours of Ghana and restored respect and credibility to the Black Stars on football’s greatest stage.”

He ended his message on an optimistic note, urging Ghanaians to look ahead.

“Thank you, Ghana. The journey starts now. To the future.”
