Fashion icon Dede Chancelor makes mark at Milan Fashion Week

Fashion is a big deal across the world, influencing culture, identity, business and celebrity status. And when it comes to the global fashion calendar, few events command as much attention as Milan Fashion Week, where leading luxury brands, designers and fashion enthusiasts converge to celebrate style and creativity.

For Ghanaian media executive and fashion enthusiast Dede Chancelor, being part of the Spring/Summer 2027 edition of the prestigious event was an opportunity to experience the global fashion scene up close and connect with some of its influential players.

One of the highlights of her Milan experience was an invitation to the front row of the Spring/Summer 2027 womenswear show by Ghanaian-born designer Victor Reginald Bob Abbey-Hart, founder and creative director of VICTOR-HART.

The show, titled Denim Diplomacy, marked the label’s first womenswear presentation and explored themes of history, identity, movement and cultural exchange through denim.

Chancelor’s appearance also attracted a press spotlight, with her inclusion in Reuters Connect’s street-style photography during the fashion week. The image, captured by Reuters photographer Claudia Greco on September 26, 2026, showed her near the venue for the Dolce & Gabbana Spring/Summer 2027 show.

“Fashion is more than what we wear; it is a statement of identity, culture and creativity. Being at Milan Fashion Week was an exciting opportunity to experience the industry on a global scale, connect with creative minds and witness how designers use fashion to tell stories and bridge cultures.

“ It was particularly special to see a Ghanaian-born designer like Victor-Hart presenting his work on such an international platform,” she told Graphic Showbiz on Monday, October 12.

Her presence at the event extended beyond the runway. She attended the opening of the CNMI Fashion Hub at Palazzo Morando, a platform for emerging designers and international creative talent, and experienced presentations by renowned fashion houses Prada and Fendi, as well as Vietnamese designer Phan Dang Hoang.

She also attended Voices in Denim, a collaboration between Levi’s and the Afro Fashion Association, where she met the association’s founder, Michelle Francine Ngonmo, and interacted with designers and other creative industry professionals.

For Chancelor, whose professional interests span storytelling, creativity and culture, the experience brought together two of her passions: media and fashion.

She is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Chancelor Productions Africa, a film and media production company, and is also a fashion enthusiast and collector with an interest in rare and vintage luxury pieces from international fashion houses, including Chanel and Dolce & Gabbana.

Her Milan experience was particularly relevant to her appreciation of fashion heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary design, as the event brought established luxury brands and emerging creative voices into the same international spotlight.

Beyond Milan, Chancelor made a brief trip to Monaco after receiving an invitation to Art & Luxury Monaco 2026 during Monaco Yacht Show week. There, she viewed an exhibition by Italian artist Alex Righetto at a gathering connecting contemporary art, collectors and luxury enthusiasts.

The 2026 calendar featured the Autumn/Winter 2026/2027 edition from February 24 to March 2, followed by the Spring/Summer 2027 edition from September 22 to 28.

The events provide a platform for established fashion houses to present new collections while giving emerging designers opportunities to gain international visibility.

Against this backdrop, Chancelor’s participation offered her an opportunity to engage with the fashion world beyond Ghana and experience a global industry where creativity, cultural identity and luxury intersect.
