Accra Airport: One-month partial road closure at Terminal 2 departure area announced

The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has announced the temporary partial closure of a section of the road in front of the Departure Hall at Terminal 2 of the Accra International Airport as construction works continue at the facility.

In a public notice issued on Saturday, May 9, the company said the closure would take effect from Monday, May 11, 2026, and is expected to remain in place for approximately one month.

According to GACL, the move forms part of ongoing refitting works on the frontage and façade of Terminal 2 aimed at improving infrastructure at the airport terminal.

The statement explained that during the construction period, the affected section of the road would be inaccessible to both vehicles and pedestrians.

“As part of the ongoing construction works at Terminal 2, a section of the road in front of the Departure Hall will be temporarily closed from Monday, May 11, 2026,” the notice stated.

The company said traffic management personnel would be stationed within the area to direct motorists and commuters, while directional signs would also be mounted at strategic points to minimise disruption and ensure the smooth flow of traffic around the terminal enclave.

GACL further appealed to passengers, airport users and the general public to cooperate with officials and comply with traffic directives throughout the construction period.

The management of the company expressed regret over any inconvenience the temporary closure may cause, but maintained that the works were necessary to facilitate safe and efficient improvements to the terminal infrastructure.

Terminal 2 at Kotoka International Airport serves domestic and regional flights and remains one of the busiest passenger terminals within Ghana’s aviation network.
