Armed Forces condemns soldier’s attack on drug store attendant and female customer, assures public of justice

The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested a soldier captured in a viral video assaulting a drug store attendant and a female customer at a pharmacy located within Burma Camp in Accra.

According to a statement signed by Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, the arrest was made at dawn on Thursday, October 30, 2025, by the Ghana Military Police.

The suspect is currently assisting with investigations into the incident.

“The suspect is assisting in the investigation over the incident,” the statement said, adding that the victims “have undergone medical attention and are also assisting with investigations.”

The viral video, which aired on GHOne TV and circulated widely on social media on Wednesday, October 29, drew public outrage as it showed the uniformed soldier physically assaulting the two civilians during what appeared to be a confrontation inside the pharmacy.

The Armed Forces condemned the act, stressing that it does not condone misconduct or abuse of civilians by its personnel.

“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public that it will not condone any acts of assault on civilians and will not shield any soldier engaged in such,” Captain Arhin said.

The GAF has, in recent years, taken steps to address reports of unprofessional conduct among its ranks, often emphasising discipline and accountability as core military values.

The latest incident adds to growing public scrutiny of how security personnel interact with civilians, particularly in spaces outside active duty operations.

The Armed Forces say further details will be communicated as investigations progress.
