Bono East Police arrest six suspected armed robbers on Kintampo-Tamale highway
The Bono East Regional Police Command has arrested six suspected armed robbers in a targeted operation on the Kintampo-Tamale highway.
The command said the suspects were arrested on Sunday, July 19, 2026, on the Kintampo-Portor section of the highway and retrieved GHC300,000 from them.
In an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Techiman, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCoP) Shaibu Abubakari Sadique-Osei, the Bono East Regional Police commander explained that a joint operation by the police patrol team and Counter-Terrorism Units led to the arrest of the suspects.
The police identified the suspects as Abdul Sadat Ali 24 years and the driver of a Toyota Voxy with registration number AS 1541-25, and Sameed Issahaka 24 years old, another driver of a KIA Rhino with registration number AS 7337-19.
Others were Abdul-Rhaman Mashud 21, Asigri Avoka 25, Awini Stephen 19 years and Faisal Salifu 26 years.
DCoP Sadique-Osei said that the suspects had since been placed in police custody assisting investigations, saying that two of the suspects were arrested at the robbery scene.
The police chased and apprehended the four others who attempted to flee the scene, he added.
DCoP Sadique-Osei said preliminary investigations showed that suspect Issahaka, who worked for the victim, planned and recruited the other five suspects in the robbery.
He expressed concern about the rise in armed robbery in the area, assuring the police dedication to intensify patrols and to bring the situation under control.
DCoP urged the youth to channel their energies into productive activities, advising them to remain law abiding too.
He called for support from communities along the highway towards stemming armed robberies and crime waves in the area.
