Fashion meets creativity as graduate transforms ‘Pure Water’ rubbers into stylish outfit

Creativity took centre stage at the 2025 Volta Regional Graduation Ceremony of the Ghana Co-operative Fashion Designers Association, when a fashion graduate, Mr Agbemewowoele Emmanuel, stunned the audience with an outfit made entirely from used pure water rubbers.

Emmanuel, in his mid 20s, the only male among 17 graduating students, said his design was inspired by a desire to turn waste into wearable art.

“Fashion is about creativity. When it was time for our fashion show, I thought about how pure water rubbers are polluting our environment, so I decided to collect, wash, and sew them into a top and trousers,” he explained.

“The outfit can be used for any fashion event and even serves as a raincoat. I can also design caps and other styles using pure water rubbers.”

He noted that his innovative work is part of his broader vision to promote sustainable and eco-friendly fashion in Ghana.

Emmanuel, who completed Vakpo Senior High Technical School in 2022, undertook a one-year industrial attachment with SASA Clothing in Ho, where he further developed his skills.

Mr Wilson Amos Kwabla Agblemor, the Chief Executive Officer of SASA Clothing, praised Emmanuel’s creativity and discipline during his time with the company, describing him as “a hardworking and talented young designer with a bright future in the fashion industry.”
