Kadjebi residents applaud fuel price cut

Residents of Kadjebi in the Oti Region have expressed excitement over the government’s directive to reduce fuel prices, describing the move as timely and a relief to households and businesses. 

Speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Mr Modestus Agyemang, a mason, said the reduction would help ease the cost of transportation and building materials, which had surged in recent months due to high fuel costs. 

He noted that artisans like himself had struggled to cope with rising expenses, adding that the directive would enable them to adjust their service charges to attract more clients. 

Ms Eva Agbovi, an entrepreneur, told the GNA that the development would positively impact small-scale businesses, especially those involved in trading and distribution. 

She explained that transportation costs formed a significant part of her operational expenses and expressed hope that the fuel price reduction would translate into lower prices of goods and services. 

Ms Agbovi commended the government for listening to the concerns of citizens and urged authorities to ensure strict enforcement of the directive to reflect at the pumps. 

Mr Samuel Kumah, a teacher, also welcomed the decision, stating that it would bring some financial relief to salaried workers. 

He said many public sector workers had been burdened by the increasing cost of living and described the directive as a step in the right direction. 

Mr Kumah, however, appealed to fuel station operators to comply fully with the directive to ensure that consumers benefited from the intended relief. 

Some commercial drivers in the area, who also shared their views, indicated that they were hopeful the reduction would lead to a review of transport fares. 

The residents collectively called for sustained measures to stabilise fuel prices to protect livelihoods and support economic growth. 

The Cabinet, at a meeting on Thursday, April 09, directed the Finance and Energy Ministers to cut fuel prices to cushion Ghanaians against the global fuel price increase triggered by the US/Israel War with Iran.
