Kwame Nkrumah Park retains most visited tourist site in Ghana

The Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park has maintained its status as Ghana’s most visited tourist attraction for the second consecutive year, according to the 2025 Tourism report released by the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA).

The iconic monument, dedicated to Ghana’s first President, recorded 302,523 visitors, retaining the top position among the country’s leading tourist destinations.

The report highlighted the continued appeal of the memorial park to both domestic and international tourists, reinforcing its place as a key destination for visitors seeking to learn about Ghana’s history and independence struggle.

Coming in second was Kakum National Park, which attracted 203,222 visitors, up from 183,757 visits. The park’s famous canopy walkway and rich biodiversity continue to make it one of the country’s most sought-after eco-tourism destinations.

Bunso Arboretum secured third place with 149,319 visitors, while Cape Coast Castle and Manhyia Palace Museum followed with 141,523 and 120,328 visitors respectively.

Other attractions that made the top ten list were Kumasi Zoo, Accra Zoo, Elmina Castle, Shai Hills Resource Reserve and Aburi Botanical Garden.

According to the report, Ghana’s 10 most popular tourist sites recorded a combined 1,377,588 visitors in 2024, accounting for 77 per cent of all domestic tourism visits across the country.

This highlights the significant concentration of tourism activity around a few key destinations.

The figures also reveal a steady growth in visitation to several sites compared to previous years, reflecting increasing interest in domestic tourism and heritage-related travel.

The memorial park has consistently ranked as the country’s most visited tourist site since its redevelopment and reopening in 2023, reinforcing its importance as both a national monument and a major tourism asset.

The latest rankings further demonstrate the enduring appeal of historical and cultural attractions, with sites such as Cape Coast Castle, Elmina Castle and Manhyia Palace Museum continuing to attract significant visitor numbers alongside eco-tourism destinations such as Kakum National Park, Bunso Arboretum and Shai Hills Resource Reserve.
