One dead, 37 injured in Accra-Kumasi highway accident at Mankrong

One person has died with 37 others sustaining injuries in a road crash involving a 40-seater bus and a truck at Mankrong on the Accra–Kumasi Highway. 

The accident occurred on Sunday, January 11, 2026, when a Zhong Tong bus (AS 7022-21) collided with a Man Diesel truck (GW 3969-U).

According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the rescue crew from Suhum Municipal Fire Station was dispatched at 6:59 am and arrived at the scene eight minutes later. 

The team extricated the deceased from the wreckage and assisted the injured, 21 males and 17 females, some of whom had already been taken to Suhum Government Hospital.

Eyewitnesses reported that the bus, allegedly traveling at high speed, crashed into the truck. The front of the bus was extensively damaged, while the truck sustained minor damage. The occupants of the truck escaped unhurt.

The GNFS crew cleared the scene, restored traffic flow, and ensured the safety of other road users before departing at 8:57 am and returning to base at 9:52 am. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to rapid and professional emergency response.
