Oti Region: Police to remain tough on drug, ammunition smuggling

The Oti Regional Police Command has reiterated its commitment to combating drug trafficking and related offences in the region.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), Mr Alex Acquah emphasised the police force’s resolve to remain tough on individuals involved in narcotics and ammunition smuggling, saying the command would continue to work diligently to curb the menace.

DCOP Acquah made this statement during a press briefing at the Oti Regional Police headquarters in Dambai, highlighting recent operations that led to the interception of a DAF long trailer truck with registration number GW1943-09, carrying 4,000 parcels of compressed India hemp wrapped in yellow masking tape.

Additionally, a Kia Rhino truck with license plate GS4677-17 was also intercepted, transporting locally manufactured single barrel short gun and 21 boxes of ammunition totaling 525 LAAA and BB cartridges en route to Kpandai in the Northern Region.

During the press briefing, the Oti Regional police commander urged the public to support the command’s efforts by providing information on suspicious activities, assuring that all tips would be treated with confidentiality.
