Police arrest five suspects, retrieve firearms, ammunition in Sapeiman operation

The Accra Regional Police Command, in a joint operation with the National Police Intelligence Directorate, has arrested five suspects and retrieved firearms, ammunition and other offensive items at Sapeiman Faase in the Greater Accra Region.

The suspects, identified as Torgbui Agah Semaglo, 50; Shadrach Agah Semaglo, 22; William Kweku Sedanu, 21; Cyril Kassenu, 26; and Kingsford Agah Semaglo, 18, were arrested on Thursday, July 17, during the intelligence-led operation.

A statement signed by Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs of the Accra Regional Police Command, on Monday said a search conducted at the suspects’ premises led to the retrieval of one pump-action gun, one Stoeger ST-R9 pistol, and one dummy Austria pistol.

The others are one jackknife, one face mask, 12 BB cartridges, three rounds of 9mm ammunition, one AK-47 round of ammunition, one talisman and two kitchen knives.

All the recovered items had been retained for evidential purposes, it said.

Preliminary investigations, the statement said, showed that the suspects were believed to be members of a criminal group involved in armed robbery and landguard activities.

The Police alleged that the group had used the recovered weapons to terrorise residents of Sapeiman and surrounding communities.

The statement said the suspects were in Police custody assisting with investigations, while efforts were underway to establish their involvement in other criminal activities and apprehend additional accomplices.

The Accra Regional Police Command commended members of the public for providing credible information that supported its operations and urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious persons or activities to the nearest police station or through the police emergency numbers.
