Police rescue abducted girl, arrest female suspect
The Ghana Police Service has rescued a nineyearold girl allegedly abducted in Agormanya Zongo, Lower Manya Krobo Municipality, and arrested a female suspect.
According to the Eastern Regional Police Command, the suspect was apprehended on April 20, a day after the victim’s father reported that his daughter had left home and failed to return.
Investigations and intelligence operations led officers from the OdumaseKrobo District Command, with support from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) to Kotoka International Airport, where Regina Mamle Tawiah, 36, was arrested and the child rescued.
According to a Police statement copied to GNA, preliminary findings indicate the suspect was attempting to send the girl to Kenya. The victim has since been reunited with her father.
Tawiah was arraigned before the OdumaseKrobo Circuit Court on April 21, where she pleaded not guilty.
She was remanded into Police custody and is expected to reappear on May 5 for a case management conference.
The Eastern Regional Police Command has urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to help prevent crime.
