U.S Embassy to suspend consular services for 11 days

The United States Embassy in Accra has notified the public of a temporary suspension of visa processing and most consular services as it undertakes scheduled maintenance works at its Consular Section.

The suspension, which will run from 20 to 31 July 2026, is intended to facilitate maintenance of the Consular Section’s facilities. The Embassy said normal public services will resume on 3 August 2026.

In a public notice shared on its social media platforms, the Embassy stated that life-or-death emergencies will be the only exception during the maintenance period. It added that all visa appointments originally scheduled within the affected period have been rescheduled.

Applicants who have received email confirmation that their passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad (CRBA) is ready for collection have been advised to visit the Embassy on 23 July or 30 July between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to pick up their documents.

“The Consular Section of the U.S. Embassy in Accra will be temporarily closed to the public from July 20 through July 31, 2026, for scheduled maintenance. During this period, we will be unable to process visas and other consular services, except in life-or-death emergencies. The Embassy has rescheduled all visa appointments that were to take place during this period,” the Embassy said.

The Embassy further clarified that adult passport renewal applications submitted through the Embassy’s drop box service will continue to be processed during the maintenance period, despite the temporary closure of the Consular Section.

It encouraged applicants to monitor its official communication channels for updates and to adhere to the revised appointment schedules as normal operations resume in early August.
